One of the most exciting revolutions in publishing today is the Indie movement. Independent authors and publishers pushing back against the corporate giants, big publishers and agents that have controlled much of what the public has read for decades. New technology has democratized the publishing landscape producing a true freedom of the press because everyone now owns one or has access to one in the form of a personal computer.
However, some publishing predators are seeking to take advantage of authors exploring this new field. They are targeting both new writers considering indie publishing for their first steps into publication and traditionally published authors who, though savvy about the traditional publishing world, often have little knowledge of the aspects of publishing other than writing and editing the story. Some places are charging up to $10,000 to help you "self-publish" your book. I've seen companies charging $3,000 just to format a book and upload it to Kindle, CreateSpace, and Smashwords. All of which can be done by the author for free, and which takes for an experienced formatter no more than an hour to do. This is unacceptable and I'm going to do my part to help out indie authors. On this page you will find some aids to help you do it yourself. You will find links to some free materials, links to one of my courses ($20) which helps you learn to format your kindle book, edit, and promote it yourself, and if, after looking at the free materials, you still think you need help, I have a low-cost, formatting and conversion service, but I encourage you to consider doing this yourself. It's not that hard, but I am here to help if you need it.
